My Favorite DIY Natural Hair Masks

The holidays are over and so are all of the parties that come along with the holiday season. Your hair went from curtly to straight and back to curly like it was going out of style, desperately waiting for January when you will decide to put a little life back into it. Whenever my hair needs a little picker upper I like to use an all natural hair mask, depending on the products I have available in my kitchen. Here are two of my favorite conditioning masks.

1. Coffee Mask
At the moment my hair is a natural black/darkest brown color, therefore I like to use a coffee mask to give my hair a natural shine and smooth look. Now, if you have light hair I do not recommend using coffee because it may actually darken your hair color, if your hair is light please see No. 2. For all of my brunettes, this is an easy and quick way to rejuvenate your hair in just a few minutes, adding shine and a richer tone to your color.

What You Will Need
- Freshly brewed coffee (Luke warm, NOT hot)
- Spray bottle (recommended not required)
- Hair tie

How It Works
Step 1: Brew a fresh cup of regular coffee
Step 2: Wash your hair and towel dry
Step 3: Let the coffee cool down until its Luke warm
Step 4: Pour the coffee into a spray bottle
Step 5: Spray the coffee all over your hair
Step 6: Tie your hair into a bun and leave in for 30 min.
Step 7: Rinse your hair

1. Beer Mask
As I mentioned, coffee is not the way to go if you have light brown or blonde hair, but don't be discouraged, I have a solution that can be used for any hair color. For years I have watched my mother use beer as a hair mask, at first I thought it was a bit odd, but once I tried it I actually loved the effect it had on my hair. I added a few extra ingredients to this mask to increase the results. This mask will make your hair feel soft and shiny.

What You Will Need
- Flat organic beer (non alcoholic preferably)
- Raw organic honey
- 1 egg
- 1 banana
- Shower cap or plastic bag
- Coloring brush

How It Works
Step 1: Let the beer sit for approx. 4 hours to flatten it, then pour into a bowl
Step 2: Crack an egg into the bowl
Step 3: Add 1 tablespoon of raw honey
Step 4: Whisk banana in separate bowl and add to mixture
Step 5: Stir all ingredients
Step 6: Apply to hair with a coloring brush
Step 7: Cover with shower cap or plastic bag
Step 8: Let sit for 30 min. to an hour
Step 9: Wash hair (make sure to get all of the banana out!)

Whichever mask you choose, make sure to apply the mask in the shower or in the bathroom because it can get a bit messy. Now go out there and give your hair some lovin'!
